Which video cards have open-source drivers?

Asked by Munchkinguy

Which video cards (preferably 3D) have good open-source drivers. I want to know this because I don't want to install any "restricted" components on my computer.

Some of the intel integrated graphics chipsets have open source (available in main) drivers that are good. I'm unsure as to the quality of nvidia/ATI open source drivers. Hopefully someone else can cast more light on that.

Intel is progressing quite a bit in their integrated graphics, if that's suitable for your needs they have released GPL drivers for many of their chipsets.
