Kubuntu 10.04 problem with hp dv7

Asked by JKnoT

I have dv7 3085dx laptop. So i installed kubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. and it worked great. but few hours later it stops working directly and i can move my mouse but i can't do anything and keyboard doesn't work. So i waited maybe 5 minute and nothing happens.
After that my kubuntu stops working at boot(sometimes) or after logon(randomly) or few hours later.

I just uninstalled konqueror and installed firefox.

Confirming, I also have an HP DV7-3085DX and it does the same thing. Sticking with 9.10 x64 for now.

I have a DV7 1127cl and had a similar problem. I turned off power management and the problem hasn't occurred again.

In addition, acpi-support package did not load. and reinstalling it gave an error:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/acpi-support_0.136_amd64.deb: subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2

Followup, my problem with acpi support not installing was fixed by deleting it
 sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/acpi-support_0.136_amd64.deb
and then reinstalling. It must have gotten corrupted on the initial download and subsequent attempts to reinstall it did not overwrite the package.
