i installed libdvdread4 and mplayer in the medibuntu repositories and still not working (black screen or errors)

did you run this command?

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

have you set the software repositories available and enable the dirty and backend /restricted extra in synaptic?

I make it work with the nogui version of mplayer (i use the command line mplayer dvd://). Did not work with the gui mplayer or gnome player, not working with totem also.

this is from suse so sorry if its a little different but this should cover the up and running

as i said before in your system >admin> software need to check in the third party boxes and updates

reload in system>admin>synaptic youll install those listed here in the post

as well there is a section in ??meta package uni/multiverse = restricted extras

also the g-streamers have codecs there good bad ugly youll need the ugly
