Deactivate CD drive temporarily to leave CD in

Asked by Jan

I rarely ever use my CD drive, only for system installation from the machine.

I want to keep a Ubuntu CD in my drive at all times so I do not have to carry around an extra case. Is it possible to deactivate CD activity (the disc spinning and the laser trying to read it), effectively using the CD drive as an internal case? :)

Sorry, I meant to say:
There is no option to only unmount the drive, just to eject.

Sometimes, the CD is not even read and mounted. I am marking this as solved because I decided to completely switch to a USB drive solution. ;)
