10.04 Cannot work on my computer

Asked by Alexander

I am currently using ubuntu 8.10 and have just installed 10.04 on another partition.
The problem is that when I login into 10.04, within a few minutes or after some simple operations, the computer stops and gives no responses. This is the same situation when I install 9.10.
However, I can run 8.10 smoothly without any problem.
My computer's config is as follow:

Hi,

Have you tested Lucid 10.04 on your computer with the live CD before installing? If yes, dit it worked properly with the live CD?

IN fact after downloading the CD image, I install 10.04 directly without trying it with the live cd...

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Have you tested your RAM?
Have you tested the CD for defects?

Hi,

I think it would be worthwhile to test your computer with the live CD first to check if it works or not properly.

If it doesn't work, then the reason why would need to be found out (surely problems with hardware, maybe the graphics card or some acpi stuff).

If it works, then you know it can works and you'll need to find out what differences there are between the live session and the install.

I already had cases of (old) laptops for which Ubuntu 8.04 worked well and by a sudden 9.04 would not work any more: black screen at some point. I was not able to solve the problem however.

I've checked the md5 and it shows d044a2a0c8103fc3e5b7e18b0f7de1c8
I've also checked the RAM by using two software and physically.
I run the CD in virtualbox virtual machine and it shows no problem. Hence the CD should contain no defects.
I wonder whether it is some driver problems..

Try disabling hardware in ram for the duration of the install like sound, lan, bluetooth etc. Make the system basic

Yes and they will be disableable in the BIOS. Press F2 and DEL as soon as you power the system on and you will most likely see the BIOS config.

The problem may be due to the driver problem of intel graphics card. Temporarily, there is no solution to the problem.
Thank all who offer help. Really Thank alot.
