desktop effects could not be enabled. 10.04 Parallels 5 VM

I cannot get the desktop effects to work again. Afer the install of 10.04 they didn't work. I kept receiving the error message "desktop effects could not be enabled." After a lot of tinkering it worked for about 12 hrs. Now it's gone again and i can't get it to work. I tried installing compfiz config settign s etc, however, the effects are never enabled.

Here's some info:
 Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04
 Desktop environment: GNOME
 Graphics chip: Device 1ab8:4005
 Driver in use: nvidia
 Rendering method: None

I'm a complete novice. This is my first time running a ubuntu VM on my mac via parallels.

sorry your having trouble in your system>admini.> hardware drivers= are any listed?

may need to reinstall+driver
