will it over write xp?

i want to keep xp and install ubuntu so what should i do? thanks for any help

It will if you choose that option during the install. On part 4 of the install it asks about partitioning. If you choose the option to "use entire disk" then it's goodbye windows. So don't do that. Instead, choose the option that resizes windows. This will give you a dual boot setup.

However, to be safe, you should back up anything you don't want to lose just in case.
