Lucid RC - usb printer not working in VirtualBox

Asked by Bob Huber

After a fresh install of Lucid RC with all updates and installing Sun VirtualBox from there website I am not able to use my USB printer in VirtualBox.It is visible but greyed out.USB mouse, keyboard etc. all work and a filter has been setup for the printer in VirtualBox. HOWEVER if i run and install VirtualBox as root (gksudo) the printer installs correctly and is usable. I've been using VirtualBox with Karmic with no problems .

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

This actually works for me with Sun's Virtualbox on Lucid with an XP host, although I know I hacked the permissions previously. I would suggest checking the Virtualbox manual to see if there are any manual steps necessary.

Can you help with this problem?
