does it tell you which libraries you need?

perhaps you can start the terminal from the login and add them??

if not do you have a start up in grub that gives you a failsafe option?

I do have a start up with a failsafe option. I did that and entered my login info, now it says mark@mark-laptop~$

Hi :)

Can you open Synaptic? From the top-taskbar click on

System - Administration - Synaptic - Edit - "Fix broken packages" - Apply

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

I can't open anything from the taskbar because I can't access it. When I turn my laptop on I'm stuck in shell.

Hi :)

Ok, so you get as far as the boot menu and can reach "recovery mode"? Try the menu option there to "dpkg Fix broken packages"

If you are stuck at the command-line then try typing

sudo apt-get -h | more

Hopefully that should givea few ideas on things worth trying to fix packages. Perhaps

sudo dpkg -h

Might help too?
Sorry if this sounds like a "RTFM" answer but i was hoping that someone that really knew the answer to this might pop-in or pop-back.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
