you should only download from the internet if yuo really need too.

under your application>add/remove(ubuntu software)

this is were you can find software applications.

if there is something else you need goto system>adminis. >software sources

select the boxes under third party and updates check them and close and reload on prompt

go to system> admin>synaptic and you will find a list that you can filter (it is set to all move it to internet or web, communication, etc)

hope that helps.

skype may not be native to ubuntu so perhaps you want to use ekiga or something similar

Hello,

Skype is available in the Synaptic Package Manager. It is a simple install. You can also get an easy install by typing in Skpe for Ubuntu in a search engine and downloading it.

Regards,

Allan :)

James,

I'm not sure what subliminalfix and ahambidge are referring too. Skype WAS in Medibuntu, but was removed a short time ago.

You can download a DEB file from http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/linux/choose/ although the Ubuntu version states 8.10 - they should work fine in 9.04, 9.10 or 10.04.

Good luck,
George
