Bootup Delay

Asked by srikumar

Hardware
P4 dual core PC with 2 GB RAM and 160 GB Hard Disk

Software
WinXP dual boot with Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31-21)

The upgrade to 2.6.31-21 was performed this morning and since then the bootup to the password screen has been taking almost 3 minutes.

WinXP boots up as usual.

Any suggestions ?

Thank you
srikumar

Does this always happen, or was it just a single boot that took three minutes?

It seems to have improved the last time I resstarted and logged in.

I would therefore consider this to be an intermittent problem. There was an error message when logging out which read somewhat as "error when enumerating devices 64". I could not copy the exact wording quickly enough. I remember that this problem was there some time back as well with regard to "enumerating USB devices". Perhaps the delay is due to this.

kind regards

It may have just been that your long boot required a routine filesystem check; this will typically take on the order of minutes to complete, depending on the size and speed of your disk.

Is this a possibility?
