How to connect to internet?

Ubuntu Newbie. I just installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my desktop, and everything went smoothly. However, when I open the Mozilla Firefox browser, I can't access any websites on the internet. My DSL modem (Westell 6100) is configured and functioning properly through Windows 2000 Pro, and the Ubuntu Hardware Manager indicates that my onboard Ethernet is installed and working. I have already gone through the Ubuntu Help for internet connections to no avail.
