Removed Ubuntu, Vista won't start

Asked by Damienw

So I did some fooling around with Ubuntu and figured out it's not for me. But after I deleted the partitions my pc won't restart. It hangs at the GRUB loader scren with an Error 22 message. I've looked around and it seems I have to use my Vista disk and boot in a recovery console and type the command 'fdisk /MBR' to fix the MBR. Is that correct? Will typing that fix my problem?

Also, the partitioning program used by Vista doesn't seem to let me make partitions larger. Is there a way I can do this using the partitioning program on the Ubuntu disc?

Thanks for any help,

Damien

Yes, using the 'fdisk /mbr' clears your MBR and it should fail over to the first partition

Using the Ubuntu live CD you can run qtparted which can be used to expand the size of NTFS and a whole rang of other filesystems(backup your data first)
Even though it is a live CD you can still install applications, qtparted isn't on the live CD so you are going to need to install qtparted to memory

Hmmm, maybe I'll just end up repartitioning the space as a new drive. Well, now I just need to get off work so I can go home and get my Vista disc. Well I'm already crossing my fingers and thinking happy thoughts. Wish me luck!

I looked around and it seems that the fdisk solution might not work for Vista, just XP. Can anybody shed some light on this? Either confirm or deny? Thanks.

I believe that yes, this is correct.

No, I am afraid Ubuntu partition program cannot resize NTFS partitions. I may be wrong on this though

Qtparted is stable and has the ability to resize NTFS http://qtparted.sourceforge.net/

Can you help with this problem?
