Encryption fails in Karmic

Asked by Ruben Iskandarjan

Dear Sirs,
We have problems with file encryption in Karmic. When we try to encrypt a file, an "unusable public key" error appears. The signing and recipient keys are the same (the belong to the owner of machine). When we try to encrypt a file without signing, a "general fault" error appears. What is the problem?

Ruben

Additionally I have found out, that I am unable to sign my own key.

You shouldn't be able to sign your own key. You also shouldn't be able to encrypt with your own key. When you are transferring data with gpg you should only be using the other persons public key to encrypt they file. They then use their private key to decrypt.

Can you help with this problem?
