error message in repositories, breezy badger not working correctly

Asked by Brownie

I get this error message when opening synaptic package mangr:

W: Couldn't stat source package list http://us.archive.ubuntu.com breezy/universe Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_breezy_universe_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
W: Couldn't stat source package list http://us.archive.ubuntu.com breezy/main Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_breezy_main_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
W: Couldn't stat source package list http://us.archive.ubuntu.com breezy/restricted Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_breezy_restricted_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
W: Couldn't stat source package list http://us.archive.ubuntu.com breezy/multiverse Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_breezy_multiverse_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)

I have been trying to add the restricted formats following the instructions on this forum, but have run into this error multiple times. What does it mean? and what needs to be done?
i have no experence using terminal, so i pasted the commands for the restricted formats package in, and i get an error saying that it can't install. How can i clean up whatevers wrong, so i can try again?
Thank you for your help in advance.

Breezy badger (5.10) is quite an old version of ubuntu and as far as i am aware no longer supported. you should consider upgrading to a newer version of ubuntu such as Feisty Fawn (7.04).
you can download a new version here: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
