Unable to browse website on Desktop but on all blackberrys

Asked by Winston George

I have a specific website running on an Ubuntu Server, I believe it is the latest version. However, my problem has to do with the fact that i can pull up the website on all the Blackberrys that I have tried but not on any desktops/laptops on seperate networks. So I dont know what is the problem. The site is being tested and as far as i know it is publicly accessible. The site can be accessed at http://69.73.199.7:44450/Namis/public

Do you really expect anyone to solve your problem without any further information?

Is the website publically accessible? Can you link us to it? What happens when you try to browse to it using a desktop?

Your blackberry may have external visibility of the network whilst the desktop you try has internal visibility of the network, or the other way around.

Frequently if you are testing something on an internal network, the address you need to use to address that server is different (a local address) than the address which everyone else will see when accessing it from the internet (a global address).

Try using the IP address of the server rather than the server name. Also verify if the internal IP address of the server on its host network (run ifconfig from a terminal on the server) is different from the IP address which you get from your desktop environment, (run nslookup servername) from the desktop environment.

Thanks for your speedy responses. The site is being tested and as far as i know it is publicly accessible. The site can be accessed at http://69.73.199.7:44450/Namis/public . Within the network and outside the network, there is the same problem.

Hi :)

I was able to reach the site quite easily from my desktop.

On your ubuntu installs have you updated through a package manager yet? Also have you gone through the Medibuntu worksheet?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

There didn't seem to be anything fancy on the site & it loaded quite fast but on my system that doesn't mean much!
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

The problem is I am using a Windows XP SP3 Operating system on my computer and I just not able to access the site. I have access to the Internet and have been able to access as many sites but not this one.

Can you help with this problem?
