How to connect internet using BSNL Huawei EC325 in Ubuuntu 9.10?

Asked by suresh

I am trying to connect internet using bsnl Huawei EC325 modem in ubuntu 9.10, and not succeeded. I searched the internet in that found the solution for same problem in ubuntu's earlier releases but not 9.10. Can you find out the way to succeed in this case?

Hi :)

It might be worth occasionally looking at this other thread that started recently
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/107897
its not the identical same problem but might have some useful clues in there.

The Huawei USB stick might already work out-of-the-box. Please go up to the top taskbar and click on

Places - Computer

When you have the Huawei plugged in do you see it appear as a tiny storage device? If so right-click on that storage and that should make the Huawei work properly. I don't understand why the manufacturers have set it up to be identified as a storage device rather than as an internet connection.

If that doesn't work then please try this setup procedure (thanks Mark :) )

Good luck and regards from

Further in this reply, In Computer there is no tiny storage device. Infact I had clicked top task bar network icon, and it identified my huawei ec 325 modem as new mobile broadband (cdma) connection. Then I followed that link it needs input like country then service provider name (my bsnl is not there in available list). Then I followed the connection through configure VPN and put my user name and password. But my connection is not happening. I hope this time your reply will sove my query.

Hi :)

Ahah, it sounds as though the Ubuntu end is working fine then. Please contact your service provider to ask them what numbers, addresses, passwords and stuff you should use to access the service you have paid for from them.

Good luck and regards from

Hi again :)

I think i might have found some pages giving the DNS & subnet numbers you need to use. These are quite old tho so it might be worth checking they are still right

I tend to trust Wikipedia more and it's been updated more recently too the only problem is that a hasty glance at it made me think this is about something slightly different

Does any of this help or can someone use it to help? I don't really understand wireless or networking!
Good luck and regards from
