Configuring Dell Wireless P513W Printer

Asked by Ramesh Pappu

I have Broadband Internet connection. My PC is directly connected to the router(not wireless) through Ethernet - USB cable. PC has inbuilt wireless feature. I configured this PC as a Wireless Router or access point(for example Linksys Router) Wi-Fi Home Network. [I configured my wireless without purchasing a Router]. I have a Laptop & Apple iPod. Both are working fine with this home Wi-Fi/Wireless Network. Yesterday I bought a Dell P513W Printer. I could not be able to access this wireless connection. Anyone knows could you please help me out. Wireless Strength is 0% unacceptable.
Printer is working fine with USB.
SSID:
WEP:
Signal Strength: -255 dBm
Trouble Code: Can't associate with wireless network.

You will need to read the manual first to get the printer connected to your wireless. Once it gets an IP you can use the Ubuntu driver from the Dell site

The configuration of your printer is not supported here. I suggest you read your manual or contact Dell directly. Once you get the printer hooked up to the wifi you can create a TCP/IP port and use the current driver you have installed.

Configuring most of the wireless printers are same. Printer scans for the available wireless networks. If the printer did not find the wireless network we have to configure it manually. Uing SSID, Key, WEP etc.
In my case
1. I configured my wireless PC card to work exactly like a router.
2. I am using same Wireless LAN for other devices iPod, Laptops.

Ramesh
Like actionparsnip mentioned this is not an Ubuntu issue. You will first need to connect the printer to your wireless network, then Ubuntu will have no problem detecting the network printer using cups.

Dell P513W Printer Drivers are for 32bit for both 32 and 64. My be Dell don't know Ubuntu desktop has two versions one is 32bit another one is 64bit. Could you please clarify my doubt please.
When I am trying to install on the desktop 64bit it is giving error message root pwd is wrong. Please enter correct root pwd. I had success fully installed on 32bit desktop.
