Installing HPLIP -3.10.2 on Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by 7kreed

Downloaded HPLIP-3.10.2 from HP - and tried to follow instructions, but it does not work.]
used alt-F-2 to open a terminal window and used " run with file" open in terminal window, specifying the file from the download folder, and what happens is gedit tried to run the file, but had a problem with character codes - none of the options seems to solve the problem.

What is the correct install procedure please?

Open a terminal (Applications, Accessories, Terminal), type: cd Downloads (if that is the name of the directory where the file is)
then type: sh hplip-3.10.2.run
and follow the prompts (use a=automatic)

The best way to install hplip 3.10.2 is using this PPA:

This is just what I want to do, as I suspect that this earlier version of hplip will bring up GUI so that I can complete Step 2 of the Install
Driver to hp 1210 psc.

But Andre's explanation is so paired down it raises questions and uncertaianties to a Tenderfoot,

whilst the highly proffesional looking method using PPA somewhat Awe-some.

At the nest sesssion Iwill look at that site for PPA
