How do I make new window pop up on top of other windows automatically?

Asked by oocevin

When I'm in ThunderBird, my email client and when I click on a URL to view it on FireFox how do I get it to pop up on top of all other
windows? Without clicking on the tab below to open it?

Firefox url bar:
about:config

Search: browser.tabs
Look for:
browser.tabs.loadInBackground = false

When I'm on Fire Fox it will open in new tab.
But my need is when I'm in Thunder Bird where
I check my emails. When I ckick on a URL in there
it will not pop up Fire fox so it is on top of my Thunder
Bird. I have to move my cursor down and click on the tab
in my task bar. How do I change it so when click on a
URL in there and fire fox opens up on top of all other
windows. Plus when I open some thing it stays
under all windows till I move my cursor down and
click on it.

Thank you for your time.

can you adjust it through the edit preference either in firefox or there?

No, because even when I open some thing in my kick off application launcher it stays under every thing also. So it has to be adjusted on my system. If I open my system setting or any thing, it
stays under all the windows till I click the tab in my task bar.

Thunderbird and Firefox are open on the same workspace, but Firefox is minimized?
After you open a link in Thunderbird you'd like Firefox to get focus with the opened link?

Please open gconf-editor and check settings of /apps/metacity/general.
http://library.gnome.org/users/gconf-editor/2.28/getting-started.html.en

Also check settings in system preferences -> windows

Is compiz running and you've played with settings?

Hi :)

I want to get it back to the other way so that i don't have to sit&wait for the page to load. I prefered it when the window got itself ready in the background so that by the time i was ready for it, it would be ready for me. lol

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

PS i think i can work it out from the ideas already given, thx :)

Are you talking about clicking a URL in thunderbird and have it open in fireFox?

If yes click on the URL and when a window pops up and says choose, click choose
and that will open up a window and on top right there is a box that ask to write it.

Click on that and put in: /usr/bin/firefox

Then ok and it will ask you below do you want to do this all the time?

Put a check mark in the box that says yes and then OK or continue.

And thats that. Save /usr/bin/firefox because there are different
URLs that you have to do this for..

I hope this helps you:-)

Go to system settings and then click on Windows Behavior. Then window behavior again, the second icon. Then Focus, in focus stealing prevention Level: None.

Policy: Click to Focus

And below I have: Click to focus.

Try that and let me know.
