Hi :)

Right-click on the taskbar/panel should let you change them.

1. Can you try ticking the "Show hide buttons" box to see if that "General" tab works?
2. Please have another look at the "backgrounds" tab to see if it has remembered the choices

Have you tried logging out and then logging back in again since trying to make the changes? Note that each panel has its own settings so if you right-clicked only on the top panel the bottom one stays as it was.

Tom :)

Hi :)

Ok, the config files appear to be in

~/.gnome2/panel2.d

on 9.04 but on 10.04 i don't know which version of gnome is being used so it might be easier to avoid the command-line for this!

Click on the "Places" menu and choose "Home folder" which is actually really your user folder inside the /home but never-mind because that is where we want to be anyway!

If you can't see any folders that have a "." at the front then go up to "View" and tick the "Show hidden folders" tick-box. Scroll to your gnome one and right-click on it. Near the bottom of the right-click menu should be the "Open as Administrator" option which gives you SuperUser privileges!

Rename "panel2.d" to something like "panel2.d.170410"

Hopefully a new "panel2.d" should appear back with "factory default" settings but hopefully now you should be able to change the properties quite effectively.

If it goes wrong and your panels vanish or something then simply rename the backup you made "panel2.d.170410" back to "panel2.d"

Ok, good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Lol, sorry about that. It was worth a try as that technique usually works on most problems like that.

Sorry chap

Hi

Hmmm, i am still hoping that ActionParsnip or someone pops in and knows the answer. Otherwise it might be fairly important to post a bug-report about this.

I briefly thought it might be a good plan to completely remove "gnome-panel" and then re-install it again but i think that would uninstall other crucial parts of the gnome desktop which could be a nightmare. Also i don't think it would achieve anything more than we tried already with the renaming plan.

Tom :)
