Hi :)

perhaps 1 of these 2 pages help?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomizationFromScratch

You might need to install a couple of new packages and if they are not on your existing Ubuntu Cd then perhaps use Synaptic Package Manager

File - "Generate download script"

to save a script to a usb stick or floppy or re-writable cd or something to collect the downloads from another computer. The other computer could be a Windows or other linux or even a Mac, just as long as it has internet access.

Good luck and regards from

Hi :)

By "if they are not on your existing Ubuntu Cd" i meant that you can add your Ubuntu Cd as one of the repositories that Synpatic checks. I guess you would have to untick all the other repositories if you are offline.

Good luck and regards from

Hi :)

You are welcome.

I hope that 1st message helps you install other programs to your machine if you need to do that. I think it helps a lot to know that you can use another machine to download programs/packages using the package manager to look after most of the complexity of installing programs.

Alternatively it is possible to get the entire repository on Dvds. I bought a set of 4 Dvd's from OnDisk for 1 Ubuntu release and hope to get the full set for the 10.04 release too. It does cost a bit of money but i figured that for the 10.04 it might be worth it since it is an LTS release so people will be using 10.04 for quite a few years and hopefully i might get more clients staying with 10.04.

These are the 3 web-pages that i keep checking to see how soon i can pre-order the 10.04 repositories dvds
http://shop.canonical.com/index.php?cPath=17
http://on-disk.com/index.php/cPath/28_257_174
http://www.osdisc.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi/products/linux/ubuntu
The 3rd one, OSDisk, is slightly more expensive but i believe some of the profits go to supporting DistroWatch
http://distrowatch.com/
Be careful NOT to order the repos until you can order the 10.04 ones as they will quickly become out-of-date within 3 weeks. Wait until the 10.04 ones are available to "pre-order".

DistroWatch provides an excellent resource for linux as a whole and needs to remain independent from the companies that support certain distros. So it can't really get any funding from any of the big linux companies such as Novell, Cannonical & RedHat without compromising it's integrity & usefulness. So, i think it is a slightly more ethical choice than the other 2 ethical choices there. Ahhh, it's great to know that which-ever i end up using it is going to be a good choice.

I know of someone that does the same as me but then copies the cds & dvds & re-distributes his copies so i have tried to convince him to recuperate his costs by charging a small fee for each copy

I think the last link helps make the Cds/dvds look nicer. Anyway, it's just a thought.

Good luck and regards from
