Ubuntu install fails at 5%

Asked by Waffle

I am completely new to Linux and Ubuntu, so i don't exactly know how to fix this problem.

When i try to install from the CD-ROM sent to me in the mail, the installation stops at 5% and gives me an error that reads "The creation of swap space in partition #5 off IDE1 slave (hdb) failed".

Am i doing something wrong?

What can i do to fix this?

IDE HDD is a very old and good known standard.
I think fist: this is a hardware error. (Error in the disk, or the data cable, or the IDE controller.)

You installed to this disk any OS?
This OSes works GOOD at now?
What the size of the memory?
What the size of the new swap partition?
What the size of the hard disk?
Can you attach your partition table? (fdisk or a similar partitioning tool's screen output)

Can you help with this problem?
