I need help to install k3b version 1.91.0 on Koala

Asked by Jim Engle

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala and want to install the latest version of K3B (version 1.91.0). Synaptic package manager lists version 1.68 so I downloaded the file (k3b-1.91.0rc2.tar.bz2) from sourceforge and extracted the file (k3b-1.91.0) to my desktop. I need step by step instructions to install through the terminal. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

well k3b is included in lucid repositories as you can see here http://packages.ubuntu.com/fr/lucid/k3b. it's not stable yet but you can just upgrade now to lucid beta2 and you will get it automatically. But if you want to install it in Karmic (not recommended) you can follow this http://k3b.plainblack.com/installation or download the packages (.deb) from the lucid repositories (first link) and try them (not recommended)

Are all versions of K3B not stable in Karmic or just version 1.91.0? I have experienced some problems with version 1.68 so thought I would install the latest version. Thanks.

i'm talking about k3b in general. the 1.91.0 is the second release condidate of k3b 2.0 not a final release but still better than 1.68 wich is 2.0 alpha3. I tried k3b 1.91.0 in kubuntu lucid and had no problem. the final release will come very soon and will be in lucid normally.

another thing, the final release of ubuntu lucid 10.04 is in two weeks and it will include the final release of k3b 2.0 . You can just wait two weeks or upgrade now.
If you are using kubuntu alt+f2 and type update-notifier-kde -d and run it
If you are using ubuntu alt+f2 and type update-manager -d and run it
I'm running kubuntu lucid and I have no problem so far :p

Boy, have I been mislead! I have seen glowing reports about k3b. Can you recommend a cd/dvd creating package that will work better on Karmic? Thanks for your input, it has been helpful.

If you are using kubuntu k3b is the best. If you are using ubuntu brasero is the best.
