Wireless pc-card (sitecom WL-140) doesn't work with Lucid: "failed with error -2"

Asked by juergen

With all preceding Ubuntu versions my pc-card worked out-of-the-box. Unfortunately, with lucid it doesn't. With karmic there was always a "wlan0" with iwconfig, but now there isn't.... These are the messages when I enter "tail -f /var/log/messages"

Seems there is a native driver but it my not work:

sudo modprobe islsm; sleep 10; sudo iwlist scan; sudo rmmod islsm

if that doesn't work try the other:

sudo modbrobe prism54; sleep 10; sudo iwlist scan; sudo rmmod prism54

let us know which one shows accesspoints (APs)

Hey, thanks for your quick answer. It doesn't work yet. This is what I get as an answer in the terminal:

juergen@Notebook:~$ sudo modprobe islsm; sleep 10; sudo iwlist scan; sudo rmmod islsm
FATAL: Module islsm not found.
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

juergen@Notebook:~$ sudo modprobe prism54; sleep 10; sudo iwlist scan; sudo rmmod prism54

ok the fact that eth1 appeared after loading prism54 is looking good. Try:

sudo modprobe prism54; sudo lshw -C network

Thanks

Ok good so far, is the AP near the system while scanning?

Yes, it is. Sometimes I'm sitting directly "under" it. With Karmic the signal is 100%.

Ok well if you read the output the wireless device is using the p54pci driver, so boot to Lucid and run:

sudo modprobe p54pci

Should be fine

Hey, once again... ;-) I'm sorry to say that, but now it's the same as in the beginning. After I entered there was the same error message like in the beginning (error -2). I also couldn't see the eth1 Interface. After I reentered "sudo modprobe prism54; sleep 10; sudo iwlist scan; sudo rmmod prism54" I got the same results as in the beginning.
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth1 No scan results

Doing the same with p54pci gives the following result:

lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

- So it doesn't find eth1...
At the end of the installation process of lucid there were several error messages which I couldn't follow. Might they be linked with this problem? Should I wait for the final release?

Thanks a lot for your help and your quick answers up to now!
