cannot boot ubuntu on my HP mini 210

Asked by Gerry Bird

I successfully installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my new HP Mini 210. One day later it now will not boot up either from hard disk, live CD on a thumbdrive or in recovery mode mode. Any ideas. Thanks

Please do not post the same exact question twice. Ask it once. If someone knows they will ask for more info or give an appropriate answer.

It would be useful if you described exactly how far into the booting process the computer gets after turning it on, i.e.:
does absolutely nothing;
gets as far as a GRUB menu (Ubuntu 2.6.31.19-generic, Ubuntu (recovery mode), Memtest86+)
starts to boot and shows logo but gets no further
etc.

Hi Zach,
Apologies for posting the question twice I thought I had only posted it
once.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for your very prompt response.

After turning on the computer, I get the *Grub loading* screen then
into Ubuntu,
*Linux 2.6.31-20-generic.*
The header at the top of this page is,* GNU GRUB version 1.97 beta4.*
If I press enter after Ubuntu, *Linux 2.6.31-20-generic.* the computer
reverts to a fresh reboot.
I must have tried all the options on this page a dozen times with the same
result. Today as I write this message I booted again the notebook which took
me to the recovery page on pressing enter on the line *Ubuntu, Linux
2.6.31-20-generic* it has booted up successfully into Ubuntu.
I have now turned off the notebook and booted again where it has gone
directly into Ubuntu with no problems.

So now everything seems to be working normally, sorry to have taken up your
time with this. I actually thought that HP notebook had taken a dislike to
Ubuntu.

Thanks very much.

Gerry

Hi Marc,
A further update, it appears the notebook will not boot with the USB mouse
attached, so what I do now is boot without the mouse and when Ubuntu has
loaded connect the USB mouse and everything seems fine.
There's possibly another issue the notebook which runs on a wireless
connection to my TP-Link wireless router, with the mouse attached it cannot
make the connection however if I wait till the connection is established and
then connect the mouse then everything is ok.
Not sure if this throws more light on the mystery.
Regards
Gerry
