9.10 freezes

Installed 9.10 on an IBM R40 Think pad fresh install as the only operating system. It wants the floppy drive but there is no floppy drive. I remove the request for the search of the floppy and it willboot but then freezes almost immediately. Help! I have a bricked Laptop!
