Ubuntu is Linux. Busy is for Microsoft Windows. Linux is NOT Windows. Windows is NOT Linux.

SOME, repeat SOME, Windows programs will run under Linux, but NOT ALL. There can be no guarantee.

Make sure that you have installed the Linux Appllication called: WIne
See if you can run Busy under Wine.

Hi :)

There is a lot of native linux software such as "GnuCash" that are free and worth trying. Usually this link helps people find a linux equivalent of a Windows program they need to use
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows

If you really have to use a Windows program then it is worth installing "Wine" as quite a lot of Windows programs can run in Wine. There are others such as Cedega but really it is worth avoiding using Windows emulators and try to stick to using proper linux programs as they are usually safer, more secure & reliable but are also faster and use less resources on the machine.

People often keep a working dual-boot with Windows taking up some of the hard-drive and Ubuntu using the rest of the hard-drive
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot
this means that by switching the machine off and then on again you can switch from using Ubuntu to Windows and then perhaps back to Ubuntu again afterwards. Other people install Windows inside a virtual machine inside Ubuntu
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox
However, installing Windows is not easy and does take a long time.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi :)

1. Please give us a link to the Bush Software website. That might help us to help you.

2. Please try to find a linux equivalent of the software. Something made for linux that does the same job
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OfficeApplications

3. Please try to repost this question in your own language and try to tell us what that language is. Then we can try to get someone that speaks your language to help you

Hi :)

Yes, as i thought "GnuCash" should be able to do the same thing but is free and written for linux. Go up to the top taskbar/panel and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

then use either search tool to find and install "gnucash". You can visit the GnuCash Website at
http://www.gnucash.org/
I didn't recognise any of the languages across the top as being Tamil tho :(

GnuCash does cover these aspects and also has a version that works on Windows, again it's free for Windows too.

    * Double-Entry Accounting
    * Stock/Bond/Mutual Fund Accounts
    * Small-Business Accounting
    * Customers, Vendors, Jobs,
      Invoices, A/P, A/R
    * QIF/OFX/HBCI Import, Transaction Matching
    * Reports, Graphs
    * Scheduled Transactions
    * Financial Calculations

Hopefully it might be able to import data from your existing "Busy" software
http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Importing.2FExporting_Data

I hope something here helps!

Sorry you are getting some quite "heated" replies to this question but we have a very tight deadline with a major new release of Ubuntu coming out in just under 3 weeks so a lot of people are very stressed at the moment. Many apologies for that!

Tom :)

Hi again

I forgot to ask if this list covers what you need from your accounting software

    * Double-Entry Accounting
    * Stock/Bond/Mutual Fund Accounts
    * Small-Business Accounting
    * Customers, Vendors, Jobs,
      Invoices, A/P, A/R
    * QIF/OFX/HBCI Import, Transaction Matching
    * Reports, Graphs
    * Scheduled Transactions
    * Financial Calculations

Also it is not always easy to change to new software especially if the timing is all wrong. In that case it is worth going up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

and this time install "Wine" (=Wine Is Not an Emulator) but like an emulator it does often help get Windows Software working on Linux. After installing Wine then try installing Busy again and hopefully it might work better this time.

But there are sometimes difficulties in translating between Windows & Linux. Programs written to work in Windows-land do not always know their way around in linux-land and have difficulty trying to understand what is going on & what the road-signs mean. So it is better to try GnuCash first if you can.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi Vasant,
End of the day...you need to install wine as a first step to install windows applications remember, Windows applications may work but may pose problems in working so operation can not be guaranteed.
Always look for equivalent of windows application in Linux.... eg windows media player for windows can not be used in Linux. So you need to use Totem Media player....same function but different names.

Mr. Tom has given you alternative of your required windows application ie gnucash can be tried in place of busy application.

You need to understand that windows and linux are two different platform and work differently at the bottom level. You should find out which application is suitable which can meet your requirements, install and put up a question if you need help on that application.
Thanks

Hi again :)

I have posted the question to the translators lists and Amachu kindly copied it to the Tamil group lists.

If you would like to join the Tamil mailing list
https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-tam

More usefully i found these sites

http://ubuntu-tam.org/vaasal/

http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=186
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TamilTeam

Please note that i cannot read any of those links so if none of them are useful then perhaps the leader of the Tamil Team could point you to the right place, but he/she is probably very very busy right now so please try using the above links first.

Hi ?

Download Busy again please. It looks like the zip file you have been given is corrupted in some way.

It might help if you could follow the link into this thread at Launchpad to post replies
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/106785
Also it might be better to try using Tamil rather than English in this thread now that someone who speaks Tamil has subscribed to this thread.

Thanks and regards from

I downloaded this 65MB busy trial package and tried to install it in wine (ubuntu). The installation completed successfully. Unfortunately, Busy does not work well in wine. It seems to be an advanced application.. tamil:

Hi

If it doesn't work straight away then it's probably best to find some other way of running it. There is a chance that a Wine expert spending many hours on it might get it to work but i would generally leave it if it does not immediately work.

Inside a virtual machine is a good method. VirtualBox is a good virtual machine and it is the default one in the repositories. Then "just" install Windows using the same product/licence key as the Windows that was installed on the machine before. It is just another re-install to the same hardware so it should be fine.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Hi :)
I agree with most of that except the 3rd point. I might be looking at that one from a different view-point though. I have often found that relationships that involve a lot of discussion and even arguments are often more exciting and develop into much deeper relationships than those were people don't talk because they don't need to because they agree too much.

*Must Read ! Very Powerfully Worded. Bravo - Prakash Bajaj, Editor of
Times of India . **LETTER OF THE EDITOR OF "THE TIMES OF INDIA " TO THE
PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA

I am born and brought up in Mumbai for last fifty eight years. Believe me,
corruption in Maharashtra is worse than that in Bihar . Look at all the
politicians, Sharad Pawar, Chagan Bhujbal, Narayan Rane, Bal Thackray ,
Gopinath Munde, Raj Thackray, Vilasrao Deshmukh all are rolling in money.
Vilasrao Deshmukh is one of the worst Chief ministers I have seen. His only
business is to increase the FSI every other day, make money and send it to
Delhi , so Congress can fight next election. Now the clown has found new way
and will increase FSI for fishermen, so they can build concrete houses right
on sea shore. Next time terrorists can comfortably live in those houses,
enjoy the beauty of the sea and then attack our Mumbai at their will.

Recently, I had to purchase a house in Mumbai. I met about two dozen
builders. Everybody wanted about 30% in black. A common person like me knows
this and with all your intelligence agency & CBI, you and your finance
ministers are not aware of it. Where all the black money goes? To the
underworld, isn't it? Our politicians take help of these goondas to vacate
people by force. I myself was victim of it. If you have time please come to
me, I will tell you everything.

If this has been a land of fools, idiots, then I would not have ever cared
to write to you this letter. Just see the tragedy. On one side we are
reaching moon, people are so intelligent; and on the other side, you
politicians have converted nectar into deadly poison.I am everything -
Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Scheduled Caste, OBC, Muslim OBC, Christian
Scheduled Caste, and Creamy Scheduled Caste; only what I am not is INDIAN.
You politicians have raped every part of Mother India by your policy of
divide and rule.

*
*Take example of our Former President Abdul Kalam. Such an intelligent
person; such a fine human being. But you politician didn't even spare him
and instead choose a worthless lady who had corruption charges and
insignificant local polititian of Jalgaon WHO'S NAME ENTIRE COUNTRY HAD NOT
HEARD BEFORE. Its simple logic your party just wanted a rubber stamp in the
name of president. Imagine SHE IS SUPREME COMMANDER OF INDIA 'S THREE
DEFENCE FORCES. What morale you will expect from our defence forces? Your
party along with opposition joined hands, because politicians feel they are
supreme and there is no place for a good person.

Dear Mr Prime minister, you are one of the most intelligent person, a most
learned person. Just wake up, be a real SARDAR. First and foremost, expose
all selfish politicians. Ask Swiss banks to give names of all Indian account
holders. Give reins of CBI to independent agency. Let them find wolves among
us. There will be political upheaval, but that will be better than dance of
death which we are witnessing every day. Just give us ambience where we can
work honestly and without fear. Let there be rule of law. Everything else
will be taken care of.

Choice is yours Mr. Prime Minister. Do you want to be lead by one person, or
you want to lead the nation of 100 Crore people?
