printer installation HPLIP 3.10.2 HP f4480

Asked by eldergnome

I am connecting with a usb cord. During the installation process the question pops up "Do you want to enable support for parallel
(LPT) printers?" What does that mean? I am delaying the printer installation until I understand this a little better. Also should the printer be connected before starting the installation of HPLIP 3.10.2 ?

The paralell bus is a obsolet one. It is a cable with tens of wires, which is now replaced by USB.
Except if you have a 10 old years printer, your are not interested by LPT.

Thanks delance for the LPT info. HP's website says the HPLIP available with Ubuntu is not new enough and said to install HPLIP 3.10.2 instead. The HP directions are not clear as to whether I should connect the printer (usb) before or after the installation of HPLIP 3.10.2 ?

For what I know, it's better to connect USB printer before launching HPLIP.
