help with Update manager error

Asked by yzfvie

When I check for updates on Update manager or (sudo apt-get update), I get the following message:

W: Failed to fetch http://arc`ive.canonical.com/ubuntu/dists/karmic/Release.gpg Could not resolve 'arc`ive.canonical.com'

W: Failed to fetch http://arc`ive.canonical.com/ubuntu/dists/karmic/partner/i18n/Translation-en_US.bz2 Could not resolve 'arc`ive.canonical.com'

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

How and where do I change the syntax "arc`ive" to archive

ive run into this before, open your update manager and click Settings --> Ubuntu Software (tab) -->different download server. i optimized my download server at one point, and eventually it needed something it didn't have. i changed it to "Download server for US" and it went fine (albeit much slower)

also check Settings-->Other Software(tab). you can edit by highlighting the different sources and clicking edit correct the type there. sorry for not reading fully...

If T.Bradley's answers don't sort it out, you might also try replacing any occurrences of arc`ive in /etc/apt/sources.list (you'll need the power of sudo), though this more suggestion than definitive answer.
