What, exactly, isn't working that you need drivers for? Sound? Video? Network?

Thanks for your reply. I can't get the motherboard driver disk to load at all. The Ubuntu installed without problem. Then it downloaded an AMD driver online. But when I put in the motherboard disk, I got a message "no Windows compatable system found" So I had to abort the install.

Look under system>administration>hardware drivers.

zvacet has given you the right location for checking the availability of relevant (usually proprietary) drivers for your system if something isn't working.

But if Ubuntu has installed correctly, and everything works as expected (sometimes, things like Wi-fi don't work out of the box) then any necessary drivers are already installed. Your disc (which seems to be only for Windows anyway) simply isn't necessary.

So is there something that doesn't work and needs fixing, or have you just been caught out by the occasional simplicity of setting up a modern Linux system?

"I can't get the motherboard driver disk to load at all." -- Did you try to *install* the drivers from the compact disk (CD) shipped with your Mainboard? That won't work since they're inompatible on a binary level or in other words they were compilled for MS Windows and not Ubuntu GNU/Linux.

I think all necessary drivers are already installed. I recommend you to read Marc Stewards last post as well. He mentiones drivers like graphics or wireless card drivers. :-)

Success! Thanks to everyone for your help and advice. I shouldn't admit this, but It turns out I never had the CD copied to my hard drive. So when I removed the CD there went Ubuntu with it. I finally figured out to double click on the "install Ubuntu" icon, and that solved the problem. I am relatively new to building computers, and this has been a great learning experience. I will enjoy learning to use Ubuntu, and participating in the Ubuntu community.
