How can I autosign a file before sending it to Ubuntu One

Asked by Ralemy

Trying to use Ubuntu One as means of office collaboration, and I need to encrypt files before sending them to the server. I was wondering if the best way is to use an encrypting solution on the client side (like making the OO save encrypted) or there is a way to tweak the Ubuntu One client to sign/encrypt anything it is syncing with the server. I mean, just pass it through a scrambler before sending and a descrambler when receiving. That would help in cases where the application doesn't have an encryption mechanism.

Thanks,
Rex from Vancouver

I am not sure about this, but UbuntuOne have your files in a private way, you can share the files but if you don't none can see them or open them...
But if you want to encrypt them you have to do it in the client with OO.org or other.

If you are going to Use the file with other people editing, Google Docs seams a better solution.

Hope this help you

Thanks Pablo.
you are right, other users can't see them but the administrators at the servers can. this is not an issue for normal data but for example in projects involving patient data there is a requirement of encryption. I was looking for a way to automatically execute a script before Ubuntu One client sends something or after it receives something.

Hi Rex, I can't think of an easy (user transparent) way to do this, but I think it represents a great opportunity to work with the Ubuntu One developers and build the privacy in using GPG (seahorse) or similar. I'm looking at all the stuff that is going to be written to the Ubuntu One service (contacts, bookmarks, etc) and see this as a growing need.

Just a thought.
