How assign a removable hard drive to a "stable" or "persistent" mount point

Asked by Reinhard Tartler

I have a hard disk attached via usb, where I intend to place backups.

That hard disk is mounted to /media/disk by hal. I want it to be mounted in /media/cryptobackup.

I've set the label of the filesystem with the tool e2label already to 'cryptobackup', but hal does not recognise this.

Can you actually see your label listed when typing:
ls -l /dev/disk/by-label/

If not, a disconnect/reconnect of your hard drive might help.

Thanks, it seems that I just had to reconnect/disconnect my drive.
