autoarrange desktop icons

hi,
i am using ubuntu 9.10.. is there any way to keep desktop icons auto arranged or sorted in some manner (like in other os-windows, mac..)... it seems really trivial and right click on desktop does give two options: keep aligned and clean up by name... but they don't seem to work in any particular systematic way.. its really weird... does anyone have any idea how to fix this... thanks...

I guess, you can't fix it. You have two joices: keep aligned and clean up by name. I guess, that's it.
