unistalling extra version

Asked by japycz

I know very little about Ubuntu. It seems to me that when I start my computer, there are 2 versions of Ubuntu( normal mode) and 2( recovery mode). That does not seem to be right. There are some other issues as well, but I would like to deal with them one at the time( it seems that I can not save internet settings and right now I have no connection, packages installed like email- Ekiga, music and video softwares are not working either). Is there any good guide for all this?

Regards,

Japycz

Nothing installed seems to work. The most frustrating is internet connection( network settings are defaulted to DNS that does not work, each time I log in , I have to change DNS). There is no problem with Windows XP. I have 2 OS systems running on my PC. I have to choose which one I want to run otherwise it defaults to Ubuntu. I have downloaded a lot of packages that I thought might be useful. Problem is, I do not know how to "activate" them. I do not know where they are. Another words, I messed up Ubuntu from the start and have no idea how to fix it.

Hello,

The "extra" recovery version is actually normal and there is no need to "uninstall" it.
As for the internet connection, you could try searching http://www.ubuntuforums.org for an installation guide for your modem if it's not working.
I don't know what you mean by "programs like ... are not working". Do they start? If they do, then I think these are the reasons why they are not working:
 - Ekiga needs a working internet connection if you wish to send and receive calls.
 - By default not all audio and video codecs are installed. You need to have a working internet connection to install them.

Can you help with this problem?
