Can you try evince to print same document ?
You can type in terminal "evince docu.pdf".
So I could know problem lie strictly inside Acrobat Reader.

Do you get any sort of error that you can show us
in a screen shot or something?

I presume it is a Samba issue (Samba is a Windows compatible software to access Windows shared printers and disk).
But I don't see why Samba would manage differently PDF and other files.
Could you try by connecting printer directly to Ubuntu PC ?

You can also install HPLIP:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html
HPLIP could install "driver" usefull for printer (like a PostScript Descritption File or PPD).

Can you help with this problem?
