What a performance ! still no inbuilt webcam

Asked by Nettie

Id174f:6a31Syntek Web Cam Asus. Now I have tried everything and lost my system totally and couldnt get past grub rescue no commands worked so wiped the lot and reinstalled obuntu again this is my third attempt at obuntu installing. This time I have taken it really easy with installing programs. Thanks for being patient. I would like some wizz to post a terminal phrase so that I can activate said webcam or make it recognise I have a camera installed. Please do not refer me to any driver process site cos Im a newbie and dont know anything about kernals installing drivers. When I go to Systems-Admin-hard drives it shows only the Smart link which I havent activated this time as one of the many procedures said not to. There it is please help

Nettie,
Skype is not going to work in Linux their latest version is meant for 8.10 1 1/2 year old release of ubuntu...so wait till they release the new version of skype suitable for ubuntu 9.10 otherwise you are going to face audio / video problems.
Till such time you need to use text chatting which is working fine.
here is the link for skype site:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/linux/choose/
Thanks
Rajinder
