run ubuntu from disc only

Asked by kr

The info passed on to me FAILED. I cannot boot from disc. I have downloaded twice, which took forever, and burned three discs. I thought this was supposed to be simple.

Yes, you can do that by using the LiveCD.
Download it and burn it to CD:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GettingUbuntu
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

You can then run Linux from the CD without installing anything on the hard disk.

Which disc did you download and which kind of computer do you have? Which error message comes up, if any? Did you run the integrity check described in the link above? Please provide some information to help us giving the right hint to you.

The disc was live cd. Runninig xp. There is no error message. I can't even open ubuntu to do the integrity check. This is especially frustrating since the download takes over an hour, I don't think it should take this long when I have a high-speed connection.

UPDATE
After doing more research I went to the boot menu (I did this before) and booted from a different drive. The problem seems to have been solved.
