error : the symbol 'grub_puts_' not found

Asked by Tory

Welp, I'm not an expert, and not really sure how launchpad works, but I thought this was important to share.

I just finished install Ubuntu Server 10.04 beta and on first boot up I got

GRUB loading.
error : the symbol 'grub_puts_' not found
grub rescue>

I'm not looking to resolve this since it is beta. I just simply wont use it yet. But, again, I thought it was important that I share.

that is all.

Be sure to see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1397629 for some info.

I haven't personally dealt with this issue, but was present once when the issue came up in #ubuntu+1 and bookmarked the above link when it was reported that it solved the issue.

Good luck,
George

Actually,

Turns out on the Ubuntu 10.04 iso there is an option for reinstall grub under system recovery. I ran that, selected the correct drive to install to, and done! :D

very cool.

anyway.

Thank you very much, I learnt about grub while reading that thread.
