Ubuntu Software Centre does not use system or synaptic proxy settings

Ubuntu Software Centre has no value to me because I can only use Synaptic to manage packages.
The proxy settings in synaptic has been configured properly and the system proxy settings as well.
However on lucid beta 1 it seems to fail with error 407 as does sudo apt-get update.
On intrepid I have the same setting but sudo apt-get works without having to configure http-proxy env.
