Can I get 3D effects on 500Mhz CPU +500K Ram?

Asked by Bish Dissa

I can enable Desk Top Effects, Cube in desktop, but I cannot get Compiz Fusion window effects.
Is it due to the CPU speed?
Any advice, please

Are you running Gutsy?
What video card do you have? (Usually matters more than CPU for 3d Effects in my experience)

My Video Card is nVDIA GeForce 6200.
Sorry, do not know (yet ! ) what Gutsy is. How do I find out if I am running it?
Thanks
Bish Dissa

Gutsy (Ubuntu 7.10) is the development version which is in fact the only version of Ubuntu officially including Compiz Fusion. The current version of Ubuntu is Feisty Fawn (Ubuntu 7.04) which does include an older version of Compiz and Beryl. You can activate only one of them, of course.

I think your setup should be sufficient for the desktop effects, either Beryl or Compiz. You have to load the restricted nvidia-glx driver which you already have, I suppose. Which effect is it that you try to load?

I am trying to load 'desktop workplaces on a cube' effect. .
I have installed Compiz Fusion.
I am not sure about the restricted nvidia-glx driver. How do I locate this and install it if not already installed.
Many thanks again.
