Ubuntu 9.10 & UNR very slow on Toshiba Satellite P200

Asked by Jacques777

I have installed 9.10 on a Toshiba Satellite P200-17C, model PSPB6E, but it was so slow. I went back to Vista and installed UNR next to Vista, but Ubuntu is still very very slow. I also have the same hissing sound from the speakers I had with 9.10 full version.

I really like UNR and really want to switch, but surely UNR should be quicker than Vista? The windows take ages to open up.

Where do I start? Please?

Did you check to make sure direct rendering is enabled in your graphics system? I've seen this cause issues that make the system feel incredibly slow. If it was, could you explain further what things feel slow?

Hi, I installed the graphics driver and things are much better now. Any ideas on the speaker hissing?

Try to run alsamixer and see what things are set to. It's possible some volume settings are turned down too far.

Can you help with this problem?
