support for AMD and ATI

Asked by syberhunter

I just bought a new Gateway NV53 Laptop with an Athlon 2 dual core x2 processor and ATI 4200 grapics card. It came pre loaded with Windows 7. I installed 9.10 on it and Ubuntu ran but could not identify the processors or the video. Also Grub could not boot Windows 7. I took it back to Future Shop and the tech told me that 9.10 does not have drivers for the AMD/ATI hardware. Is this true and if so is there a way around this? Will the next version have support for these problems?
