"You need to load the kernel first" after update

Asked by razi_qazi

Hello Experts.

When I update my Ubuntu 9.10 Linux last night, after installing updates I Shut-down my system and when I open it in the morning I got the following error "You need to load the kernel first" after update" on Starting "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-20-generic". It is also not giving the same error on Recovery mode. The other one "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic" is working fine on normal and on Recovery mode.

I also tried this link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1351171 but not working for me.

I tried these command mentioned on the above link.
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade
and update-grub

Thank You for your support in advance.

Regards.

Try:

sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-image-2.6.31-20-generic

Should be ok.

I suggest you log a bug. If the above command doesn't work, just use the 14 kernel til another is installed via updates
