problems after upgrade

Asked by Oyestein Mikalsen

Tried upgrading from breezy to dapper, from the synaptic package manager.

at first it couldn't upgrade because og som link in the repo.
then i changed the repo to dapper repo. Suddenly X wont start.
the system ran a forced systemcheckU(after being mounted moe than 30 times).

almost everhing seemes to work except from this;

Tetex and jadetex wont install.

Some of my programs i had in breezy, like bugbuddy, isn't in the apps menu, but it shows installed in the "add apps" menu.

Norwegian user i am, my keyboard can't set up some of the norwegian letters, and some special symbols like the "at"-symbol when typing emailadresses

Everytime i log in on my desktop, this "notifier" come up;

Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
70000000

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd

I have exactly the same problem (using en-GB as default locale), including the tetex and jadetext not installing. Cannot switch into virtual terminal either.

gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = [gb,cz qwerty]
 model = pc105
 options = [grp grp:alts_toggle]
 overrideSettings = true

output of xprop -root | grep XKB is empty, i.e., xkb is not loaded.

Had no such problems in Breezy.

OK, I think I just managed to fix this problem this morning:

$ sudo mv /etc/X11/xkb /etc/X11/xkb_old

using synaptic, search for xkb and completely remove xkeyboard-config; reinstall xkeyboard-config, libxkbfile1, libxklavier10 and xkbutils.

Had to reboot twice before all of the changes took effect, but it seems to be working now.

Could someone resubmit this as a bug report, with the information that you used to fix it, and the details of how to reproduce it. All you need to do is click on "Create Bug Report" and then try to organize the information as well as best you can.
Thanks,
Alex
