Virtual Box OSE

Asked by srikumar

Virtual Box OSE was installed in Ubuntu 9.10. Now I need to remove Virtual Box OSE since it does not support USB drives and the USB printers cannot be used under WinXP which was installed thro Virtual Box OSE.

Do all the WinXP and other programs which were installed under WinXP in Virtual Box OSE get automatically deleted when Virtual Box OSE is uninstalled / removed.

thanks
srikumar

Srikumar,

I use the non-OSE version of VirtualBox and the VM's as well as settings are stored in the directory ~/.VirtualBox

I would recommend you either copy or move that folder, uninstall the OSE version, install the PUEL version, then copy/move your backup back to the origional ~/.VirtualBox

This is "probably" overkill and uninstall OSE version won't touch the ~/.VirtualBox folder - but better safe then sorry.

Best of luck,
George

No, they will not be deleted. Your machines including virtual HDDs will stay in ~/.VirtualBox/. You can use them with the non-free version of Virtual Box which supports USB or delete them if you like.
