permanently disable autologin feature in Ubuntu (live cd/liveUSB)

Asked by Luis_UbuntuNewbie

Hello. I am a newbie to Ubuntu but I really like the linux operating system. I installed a persistent image on a 4GB thumbdrive and it works perfectly. However, I would really like to disable the autologin feature of the live ubuntu cd version so that I may be able to secure my settings that are saves to the casper-rw file. Does anyone know how to permanently change this setting so that at startup only the login screen appears ( so that the setting will saved and applied on every boot) ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Luis,

This is a bug with Launchpad/Ubuntu that started a few days ago:

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/538097 for additional details.

The bug is currently marked as Critical and will hopefully be fixed very soon.

Good luck,
George

Luis,

I did request in #launchpad for my mistake to be deleted, didn't get any response. I feel bad, so I'll attempt to answer your question (I'm just not sure if it will apply to a LiveCD setup).

With a standard install you would click System / Administration / Login Screen - click the Unlock button at the bottom (if everything is greyed out) then move the dot to "Show the screen for choosing who will log in".

Be sure you have created a user account with a password prior to doing the above!

BUT - this may NOT work on the LiveCD.

Good luck, again sorry for my blunder,
George
