virtual terminal gets flooded with over-current change on port

Asked by Benjamin Geese

i dont know since when exactly, but recently the message
Mar 15 12:26:39 ben-laptop kernel: [ 1641.184129] hub 2-0:1.0: over-current change on port 2
floods my virtual terminals on ubuntu lucid. this has not been the case before and makes th virtual terminals unusable. i would report this as a bug, but i heart this is a correct behaviour?

im using an thinkpad r52 and i currently have no usb device connected. to be sure, i disconnected all usb devices and shutoff the laptop. after turning it back on, the messages keep coming.

Benjamin,

This will not help you, but thought I'd share.

My ex-girlfriends Gentoo desktop system had the same error, repeated over and over in terminal. The solution was to disable USB2 in the kernel (something that I would have NO idea how to do in Ubuntu).

Once apport (the bug reporting program) is fixed, you should certainly report this as a bug.

Best of luck,
George

Sorry, calling disabling USB2 a solution is an exaggeration, it's a "work around" of sorts.

Can you help with this problem?
