Lost the words 'APPLICATIONS' 'PLACES' 'SYSTEM' from the panel and want to either re-boot or unistall Ubuntu 9.10. Can't do either.

Asked by Ron Saunders

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I wanted to uninstall and re-install from the disk but not able to.

In Recovery Mode, the screen finishes by asking for a $ command to proceed. I have no idea what this command is.

I am making the assumption that Recovery Mode will re-instate Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala as it was initially.

Your operating system is not user friendly for amateurs.

Ron, with problems like yours, you should rather go to the forums: http://www.ubuntuforums.org

Is it possible that you just removed the icons from your panel, by chance? Try a right click on the panel, then choose the add option and look for entries that contain words like "menu" or so (you seem to use gnome and I don't, so I can't tell you exactly what the exact names are).

Ah, and one more remark: You may consider the "operating system" not user-friendly - the community IS friendly. Even if you are not :-)

This is more a question than a bug. I hope you found help at the forums as was suggested.

If not, you can easily add the item back to the panel by right-clicking on the panel, selecting "Add to Panel", finding "Menu Bar" in the list, and clicking "Add".

Can you help with this problem?
