Will not transfer files to Creative Stone

Asked by Jonas Dalheim

I am trying to transfer music to my Creative Stone mp3 player. Ubuntu recognizes the player without trouble, but when I attempt to transfer music, a message says there is not enough space on the player, even though it's empty.

Does your mp3 player allow "formatting" of the internal memory (or memory card)? If yes, try to format it and see if that helps. If not, you can try to format it from Ubuntu. There are two methods, but I suggest this one first: I am assuming you only have one (physical) harddrive. In this case your mp3 player will be detected as /dev/sdb. In a terminal, type this command: sudo mkdosfs -I /dev/sdb
After it has finished formatting, Unmount and Eject the drive, and then plug it in again. Now try to transfer the mp3's and see if it works.
